The show where I tell you about a place in Japan and then we go there. Today we're headed to the Okuhida region of Gifu prefecture. Now Okuhida isn't a town; it's an area in the northern Japan Alps known for hot springs, hiking, Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, and skiing during the winter. There are five main hot spring towns in Okuhida, each with a plethora of hot springs to experience. There are indoor pools, outdoor pools, foot-baths,
And even miniature hot springs for cooking eggs called "onsen tango" which are a traditional snack to enjoy when at an onsen town. Just be careful you don't burn yourself. Ow! Ooowww! The Okuhida region is loaded with amazing hiking trails and natural beauty.
For example, only a quick hike from Hirayu Onsen town is the grand Hirayu Falls. Another claim to fame for the region is that it has the region's first double-decker gondola called the Shin-Hotaka Ropeway. Now let's travel to the Japan Alps and see Okuhida for ourselves. Right...now Personally I love getting out of the big city and into a more natural setting like Okuhida.
You have the fresh air, the beautiful views, the slower place... But I also recognize that that's not everybody's style, so let's make that the discussion topic in the comments this time. City or countryside? Thanks for watching and sharing this series with anyone you know who might be planning a trip to Japan. I'm Andrew Marston. See you next time.
